Robins:

This week we learnt about the story ‘Poles Apart’. We learnt how penguins live at the South Pole and polar bears live at the North Pole. However, in the story the penguins get lost and end up in the North Pole! We loved retelling the story using the small world figurines and built out own igloos using Lego. This week we were set a very grown-up challenge! We were given the paper and card to create our own penguins, but we had to cut all of the different parts independently! We did a super job and showed a lot of resilience. Reception children learnt about finding doubles this week. We learnt to find double, we add the same amount. We used butterfly and ladybird wings to help us find the double. We drew the same amount of spots onto each wing and wrote the number sentence below to match!

Woodpeckers:

In English this week, we have written our own versions of the Magic Paintbrush, using our own magic item. In Maths this week we have been working on addition using known bonds. In Science this week, we experimented to find a good material for the Three Little Pigs to make their new house with. In RE this week, we learned about the Sermon on the Mount and thought about its importance for Christians.

Kingfishers:

This week in English, we have been exploring types of sentences such as compound sentences and using them to write about our class text, Matilda. In Maths, we have been furthering our learning of estimating by rounding. In Topic, we learnt about the different time periods within the Maya Civilisation and explored the variety of regions that the Maya Civilisation settled in. In Science, we explored fossils. In RE, we continued our research on Saints. In PSHE, we discussed the importance of positive thinking and managing setbacks.

Owls:

This week we have been learning how to structure our text when comparing two poems – we looked at Point, Explanation and Evidence. In Spanish we ordered some sandwiches in the café using our excellent pronunciation – see our socials! In Maths we are moving through decimals and percentages and how they link together. RE saw us investigating the life of St Theresa and how she became a saint. In Science, we looked at the 7 life processes – MRS GREN. In PSHE we are looking at how to keep our bodies healthy.

The House Captains, Vice Captains and Dog Handlers would like to raise money for Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust. Therefore, they have arranged a photography competition! The theme is Winter wildlife and Nature. So, it may be the robin that feeds at your bird table or the snowdrops on the green. The children will have a visit from a professional photographer who will hopefully inspire them and give good tips on how to get a great photograph.

  • The photos can be taken on a phone, with an iPad or perhaps you have a digital camera.
  • No screen shots
  • Photos to be taken by the entrant

Packed Lunches

As a healthy school we strongly encourage fresh fruit and vegetables (tomatoes, grapes, olives etc) in lunchboxes but please can you ensure they have been cut into quarters, to prevent a choking hazard.

Attendance

The Government are rolling out their new national drive to improve school attendance. For most pupils, the best place to be during term-time in is school, surrounded by the support of their friends and teachers.

This is important not just for your child’s learning, but also for their overall wellbeing, wider development and their mental health.

As a parent, it can be difficult to know when to send your child into school if they are feeling unwell or a mildly anxious, but finding solutions is a team effort between schools, parents and children, and there is support and information available to help you make the best decision for your child.

Please take a look at the Education Hub Blog, for help and advice.
