You will be aware of the DfE Advice on School Attendance that I have referred to in past newsletters. Amendments to the registration regulations published by the DfE that came into effect in September 2013, removed references to family holidays and extended leave as well as the threshold of ten school days. The amendments make it clear that headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Our school policy, which is available on our website, states that where parents feel that there are exceptional circumstances, they may request up to but no more than 10 school days leave of absence in any school year. Exceptional circumstances may include the following:
- Bereavement / funeral
- Leave requested owing to serving forces parent having been away on duty for a period of more than 8 weeks
- Close family member with a terminal illness
- To sit public examinations
- Other circumstances will be considered on an individual basis.
Any request should be made in writing using the school's absence request letter - please see Jackie in the office.
